Amazon (AMZN)RpgblockchaingameUs) plans to spend $9 billion to expand its cloud computing infrastructure in Singapore. The company said on Tuesday that the spending would be completed over the next four years and would double Amazon's cloud computing business (AWS) investment in Singapore. This helps to meet customers' growing demand for cloud computing services and accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence.

"this investment will have a knock-on effect across Singapore by promoting economic growth and cloud adoption," said Priscilla Chong, AWS's Singapore regional manager. Amazon estimates that its planned investment will provide an average of 12300 full-time jobs for local companies in Singapore each year. The company will also hold seminars for more than 100 companies over the next two years and work with the Singapore government to help small businesses take advantage of generative artificial intelligence.

AWS has been expanding its business outside the United States in recent years, with most of its investment targetedRpgblockchaingameThe Asian market. Including investment in Singapore, AWS has announced investments of about $35 billion outside the US this year, including Japan, Saudi Arabia and Mexico. The company has also established data center clusters in Malaysia and Thailand. Amazon said last month that AWS is expected to achieve annual sales of $100 billion for the first time. Executives say AWS is benefiting from corporate technology modernisation projects and demand for artificial intelligence services.

Singapore has developed into a hub for companies such as Meta Platforms (META.US) and Alphabet (GOOGL.US) in Asia and is seen as a gateway to the broader Southeast Asian region. Last week, MSFT.US, Amazon's biggest competitor in cloud computing services, toured Southeast Asia, and Satya Nadella, its chief executive, announced a series of new investments and plans for Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.
